He Lights Up the Sky for You

Good morning, friends!

Let's talk about God's visible presence today.

Does anyone like storms?

I adore lightning. The last thing I saw before bed last night was what I know as "heat" lightning. No actual rain or thunder accompanying the lights in the sky, but fascinating to watch, nonetheless. I am ceaselessly enraptured by the displays God puts on for me.

Now my Heavenly Father works in my life all the time without visible results. His hand is moving without my provocation and He needn't consult me to enact His perfect will in my life.

Yet, oh, isn't it lovely and glorious when He gives us visible signs of His majesty, His power, and His creative work?

I am stopped in my tracks at lightning in the sky.

This works better for all involved if I'm not behind the wheel of a car, but I do try to keep my eyes on the road if a light show is in progress.

The same goes for my rainbow chaser nature. I'm sure I regularly stump my neighbors as I go traipsing out of my front door while it's raining to crane my neck and stretch to my full "5'-ish on a fluffy hair day" self in order to gaze over the nearly 100-year old trees in my yard--simply to catch a glimpse of a potential rainbow.

Why am I so diligent? Why do I risk appearing foolish on behalf of a rainbow or a streak of jagged light across the sky?

Why do I still have childlike wonder at these tangible images of God's presence?

It goes back to the verse above to some extent.

"For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day." Luke 17:24 (ESV)
Jesus lights up the sky. I can see it and know He sees me.

It's a visible reminder of His seeing.

Does He still see me on the days there are no signs? Yes.

Do all the signs point to me? Hardly.

However, I believe with all my heart we serve and love a tenderhearted, merciful Father, and our Abba (Daddy) wants us to know He sees us. He shows us in mighty and infinitely miniscule ways (think of lightning bugs, here) how much He cares for us and desires to delight us.

At my very simplest, I still thrill at the sights and sounds of what God offers me each day. Before I get all "adult" about my tasks, I am still the youngest remembrance of myself, and I spring from my bed to eagerly anticipate what Jesus has to show me.

Isn't that how He wants us to be? Childlike. Simple. Our gaze to the skies or focused on His creation. The things and people around us to remind us of Him.

Take a moment today to remember. Remember what the best of feeling like a child was for you.

See if you can recapture that wonder in your heart as you gaze around you. Write that one thing down that reminds you He sees you. He reveals Himself to you. He wants to interact with you. Notice Him like He keeps His eyes unwaveringly focused on you.

He lights up the sky on your behalf. Don't miss it!

Let me know what God shows you!

Leaving a trail of beauty~
