Thursday Thanks Tank

(a time to intentionally redirect my gaze and give testimony to the ways God blesses me)

How is God filling my tank this week?

First, I'm going to walk a ways down memory lane and then head on to the thanks tank. Bear with me as I get a little nostalgic on you:

Have you ever just had an a-ha moment blast you out of nowhere? I had one of those recently.

When I was growing up, we had a nightlight in our bathroom. Just a little plastic box with a light in it that had a Scripture verse on it. My mom probably got it at our local Berean Christian Bookstore.

I truly never thought much about the nightlight or what it said. It was just always there. It lit my way to the potty if I got up in the middle of the night.

It shed a warm glow at the end of the hall way if I needed to find my way without waking anybody up.

That is, if I came in late once I had a curfew (and oh, did I come in late more than once! So I got to be an expert at all the squeaky spots in the hall between the basement door and my bedroom).

I digress. The nightlight in that bathroom had this verse on it:
"He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." Psalm 121:3-4
Again, I never really thought about the meaning of the verse. It just had always been. I'd read it every day and every night from the time I was old enough to walk down that hall by myself.

Truth that seeped into my brain and stayed there.

Truth that I called to mind this very morning upon waking to a storm that had been raging while I slept.

Now, on with my Thanks Tank:

  • I am thankful the above verse is as true today as it was the very first time I read it on the bathroom nightlight. God does indeed keep me. He keeps me safe and does not allow my foot or anything else to be moved. He stays awake through the storm while I peacefully sleep unaware.
  •  I am thankful to have awakened with power this morning. Praying for the 1,800+ in my area who didn't.
  • I am thankful the cat made it through the night on the front stoop, because she can't jump through the broken screen door anymore.
  • I am thankful all the screens on my front porch were fixed last week and weathered the 60+ mile/hour winds our community faced while I slept.
  • I am thankful for work, albeit in short bursts to help sustain me until something full time comes along. God is providing, and I am following His lead regardless of His method.
  • I am thankful to not have a full time gig so I can volunteer to join our preschoolers next week at VBS. I'll be helping in crafts and gladly be up to my elbows in glue, paint, rigatoni noodles, pom poms, and stories about how God is good ALL the time.
How is God filling your tank this week?
Do you have a story about how He allowed you to sleep through something while He stayed awake on your behalf?

Please share in the comments. I'd love to hear about His faithfulness.

Have a thankful Thursday and intentionally take time to recognize His gifts.

Leaving a trail of beauty~
